the art of… concept tops final

Staging, depth, composition… the concept art up top is much more convincing than the final below. Just me?

Not just you… though having seen the movie, they are so consistent with the production design that the below image ends up looking real due to (i’m assuming) difficult scene continuity. i tip my hats to the lighting crew in particular of TRON. their texturing department also deserves some credit. They also put a lot of work into the environmental effects (the clouds in the distance).

the best film for effects i’ve seen this year outside of kids CG movies, and even then TRON is impressive. i hope it wins the oscar honestly (just for effects and music though).

Its frustrating having to wait so long to see these movies in Europe. I’ll keep the above shot in mind when I finally do.

It is a real visual treat. They nail a consistent and fun virtual reality in the film. While it is cartoonish as in your picture above, as they maintain this look EVERYWHERE in the film it feels real.

The visuals are also helped by the very original score by Daft Punk, it helps sell what you see. The music itself is otherworldly, and so blends with the visuals perfectly to give something of a documentary feel… Very sleek on that end of the production.

Though don’t expect much from the story or the characters. I can’t believe how serious and stern they treat the concept. There are about 5 purposeful jokes (though a few moments that were funny by accident… at least if you’re me :P). Too bad as the 82 film was quite tongue and cheek about itself.

Seriously worth SEEING, but not a movie you’ll be quoting anytime soon

its looks different because is have same practianls movments and effects in the location… when you see the movie you understand… 2d does not work it have to work in 3d… this this case the location transforms and move…so the propotion have to be correct and practical…

anyway but a movie… the story is more simple but the first old movie was simple as well…

Hi Heri! Did you work on that one, too?
Saw the Thor trailer… was very skeptical in advance, but now I can’t wait to see it.
